Don't Be an A[euro][approximately]idiot': Steer Clear of Flooded Roads

POLICE are urging motorists not to be aidiotsa and endanger their lives and those of emergency personnel by attempting to cross flood-swept roads.

With the region experiencing record rainfall, many normally sedate streams have been turned into raging torrents with floodwaters inundating many roads.

Southern Region Police traffic co-ordinator Inspector Lyle Mitchell has been left afrustrateda with motorists ignoring road closure signs, resulting in them having to be rescued.

"We are urging motorists to obey road signs. They are in place for your safety and we are getting frustrated that too many people are risking their lives and that of emergency personnel trying to cross flooded roads," Insp Mitchell said.

With more rainfall expected over the next few days, Insp Mitchell said the region's roads were only going to get worse.

"With the amount of rain we have had and with more to come it is only going to become more dangerous. …
