FOR TWO years Chip Barnes, president of the Fraser Coast Tennis Association, has been making plans.

Now those plans can finally be brought to life, thanks to generous funding from the State Government as part of their Sport and Recreation Infrastructure program.

The association currently leases two tennis courts from the Dundowran Recreation Club and, with the help of their $299,298 grant, the association will now be able to upgrade those courts and build four more.

"We celebrated long into the night," Barnes said.

Barnes said there was room for eight courts at the location and the association would continue to apply for funding to make that stage of the plan a reality.

For now the club is focussing on using their funding to put the first stage of the plans in motion.

The club is also intending to get lighting installed at the courts so they can hold night fixtures.

Barnes said the addition of eight public access courts would complement the 12 existing courts owned by the Hervey Bay Tennis Association and would bring Hervey Bay in line with Tennis Australia's recommendation of 20 plus public access courts for a region of Hervey Bay's size. …
