MY NIGHTMARE OF A YEAR; Redcar Rock Reflects on Boro's 'Terrible 2010': Wheats Tells of Nightmare Year

DAVID Wheater admits this year has been a "nightmare" for both himself and for Boro.

The Redcar Rock, who could well be sold in January to fund Tony Mowbray's first team re-building project, is hoping 2011 brings better times for all concerned.

"This really has been a terrible year and I'll be glad to see the back of it," admitted the 23-year-old.

"For me personally and the club as a whole it has been a nightmare year. I've had I don't know how many partners and two managers and the whole year has been a real struggle with some very poor results and very poor performances.

"But I think we are starting to turn the corner now. The team is looking more solid and stable, especially at the back, and I think we are definitely playing better now.

"I'm sure that in the New Year the results will start to come."

Wheater this week reiterated his intention to see out the remaining six months of his current contract.

It's a stance he's maintained all season and suggests he won't be demanding a transfer during next month's window.

Boro, however, know their only chance of getting a fee for the homegrown star is to sell him before February 1, so watch this space...

Wheater's immediate priority is the New Year's Day derby revenge mission at Elland Road.

The Redcar Rock believes Boro can take the sparkle from the Christmas cracker at Preston into a massive match at Leeds to start 2011 with a bang. Wheater -who scored in the 3-1 win at Deepdale -declared: "It's a big game for us down at Leeds but we will all be going there with a bit of a buzz.

"We've scored three good goals and defended very well at Preston so we can go there with a lot of confidence. It is a massive game for us anyway, everyone knows it is our most local derby in this division and it is very important for the supporters. …
