Mick Returns to Rescue Cat; Evacuee Searched for His Feline Mate Left in the Flood

aTHE cata became a mate to Mick Doneley.

So when the Rockhampton man had to evacuate his Bolsover Street home, he was devastated that he and SES volunteers couldn't find the feline, which had run away from the impending water.

Despite being moved to the CQUniversity Community Sports Centre as floodwaters approached his house, Mick returned home to search for athe cata and said he was lucky to find it.

Mick was yesterday relieved it was safe and well at the centre with him, in a special pet enclosure.

aI had to go back and get my cat, I couldn't leave him,a he said while inside the centre, which yesterday housed 34 people.

aIt was stressing me to think that he was in the house with the water coming up.a

When he arrived with the cat, it received the nickname aTigera, as Mick hadn't thought of a name for it.

Mick said he set up wooden planks from one windowsill to another holding all of his possessions. …
