DENISE Dawes has donned the bright orange dress of the SES for almost 20 years and continued the effort in the recent floods while also working her day job.

The 55-year-old spent time at her job at Warwick's Big W before she headed out to help check houses and water levels in the evenings.

She joined the organisation with her husband and progressed through the ranks to become an abseiling specialist and has helped out on countless call outs in the last two decades.

But Mrs Dawes does not think her efforts are anything special.

C[pounds sterling]If you don't step forward, who will?C[yen] she said.

C[pounds sterling]I get a kick out of achieving something and satisfaction from helping others.C[yen]

She said she also loved that the SES gets her out from behind the desk.

Mrs Dawes praised the strong Warwick SES team which assisted with everything from flood boat rescues to roof tarping.

C[pounds sterling]We have a new young crew stepping up now and it's just wonderful because they are the crew of the future,C[yen] she said. …
