Wear Still Waiting to Tie Up Loan Deal Duo

STEVE BRUCE is not banking on landing loan targets Sulley Muntari or Stephane Sessegnon ahead of this weekend's Wear-Tyne derby.

The Sunderland boss is hoping to tie up deals to bring in Ghana midfielder Muntari from Inter and Benin international Sessegnon from Paris St Germain in the transfer window.

But he admits it is proving to be a slow process and, as things stand, neither player is likely to be on Wearside in time to face Newcastle on Sunday.

Bruce said: "I'm still working on strengthening the squad, but I'm not close to anything at the moment." Sunderland could be boosted by having at least one player from their extensive injury list back in time for the derby.

Defender Nedum Onuoha has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury but could be fit to play against the Magpies.

Bruce also held out a faint hope that skipper Lee Cattermole would be ready, although he admitted it was a long-shot.

"We might have a couple of the injured lads back - maybe Onuoha - and we'll see how Cattermole is too, but he is very doubtful," said Bruce. …
