SHE'S is love with being in love, but today serial bride Pat Higgins insists her ninth husband will be her last.

Eight-times wed Pat promised Mark Sanderson, who at 24 is 32 years her junior, is the one she will stick with for life.

Pat, 56, of Longbenton, North Tyneside, said: "I'm an eternal optimist and have thought every marriage was going to work.

"But this time I know it's going to last. People might say he is too young but age has got nothing to do with love."

Pat first got hitched in 1974 to Michael Kelly but the marriage only lasted three years.

She went on to marry a further seven times with the longest lasting five years and the shortest lasting just five days.

Some marriages ended with accusations of infidelity but in some cases Pat and her husband simply drifted apart.

It earned her a reputation as a maneater and as all of her grooms were younger than her she gained the cruel nickname of the black widow - after the spider which eats its mate!

But Pat simply shrugged off the taunts, and said: "Younger men are more fun than men my age which suits me because I want to enjoy myself until I draw my last breath.

"I'm young at heart so young men suit me better.

"I haven't done anything wrong - I haven't killed anyone one or done anything illegal.

"People get divorced all the time so I don't know how people can judge me.

"I have been divorced eight times but it hasn't always been my choice. I've tried to make every marriage work and this time will be no different.

"Once trust and communication go from a relationship it is difficult to carry on in an environment like that. The truth is, I have been unlucky in love."

Pat, who is studying for a sociology and social politics degree through the open university, met 24-year-old shop worker Mark on a night out in Newcastle.

And 10 months later Mark fell to one knee to pop the question to Pat. They haven't set a date for the wedding but expect to get wed in 2012. …
