MOE trainer John Pascoe has celebrated his first city win at Sandown with five-year-old mare Yasey San who he astolea as a yearling.

Pascoe has been involved with horses since he was a 14-year-old and said he was determined to buy Yasey San as soon as he saw her at a 2007 mixed thoroughbred sale in Melbourne.

aShe was a steal (at $6000) but I was going to buy it no matter how much it cost,a Pascoe said.

aWhat I saw was a filly that was going to develop into a nice horse.

aShe was long and skinny but I could see the potential and I think she is going be even better as a six-year-old.

aShe used to lose a lot of weight but now she is holding weight and working nicely.a
