RISING flood waters beneath his Harwood home were not enough to stop State Emergency Service volunteer Peter Mather leaving it and his family to help others.

The veteran Maclean SES volunteer has since been making around 10 trips a day by boat, dropping essential groceries to isolated people and taking those in need of medical care to hospitals as flood waters rose.

aI haven't really had much sleep, but out where I live, everyone sort of chips in and helps one another,a he said. aI've lived out at Harwood since 1981, so I know a fair few people out there and know the people who need help in these sorts of situations so I look after them.

Mr Mather, his wife and two of their three sons are all involved with the SES, making it a true family affair. …
