TRIALS for the Cougars under-19s team for 2011 are under way, and several Gladstone footballers are keen to claw their way into the squad.

Joe Skelhorn is trying out for the under-19s Cougars, as well as the senior Cougars team after a year with Yaralla last year in Cap League.

While his fitness level isn't an issue, bulking up is a key focus for Skelhorn this year as he knows this is a necessity to endure senior football.

C[pounds sterling]I'll have to increase my physical presence and I want to improve my speed,C[yen] he said.

Describing himself as a team player rather than an individual, the 18-year-old feels his strength lies in his foot skills.

Jordan Rose is attempting to make the under-19s again, as well as the senior Cougars.

Rose hopes his football blossoms this year and has moved to Cathedral College in Rockhampton so he can combine schooling and his sporting passion more efficiently, as training will take up three nights. …
