GYMPIE athlete Carlin Anderson played a pivotal role in helping Queensland storm to victory in the Under 17 Boys Fastpitch Softball Championships in Adelaide last week.

The national competition, running between January 9-15, was held in Adelaide and Queensland claimed the title by defeating arch rivals New South Wales 1-0.

Anderson was a standout for Queensland, scoring the winning run in the fourth innings after a giant hit from a team mate allowed him to race to home base.

Queensland was jubilant in victory, avenging a loss to New South Wales last year to add even more excitement to the win.

Meanwhile, Queensland's victory ensures the sunshine state has its name engraved on the trophy for the first time in the Under 17 age division.

Anderson played in his favourite position of third base and left outfield throughout the competition and wasn't daunted by the scale of the competition, hitting six home runs and working overtime in the field. …
