Free Event Set to Give Some Real Food for Thought

A FREE event for businesses to explore opportunities around a method of recycling food waste is to be held.

The event, organised by RENEW and MAS North East, will take place at Durham County Cricket Club on January 27 and will look at anaerobic digestion.

The process involves heating food and organic waste to produce by-products that can be used, including biogas, reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill.

Peter Walsh, energy manager at RENEW, said: "Converting food waste and other organic materials into biogas is a process that is commonly used across northern mainland Europe, but not here in the UK. This event will help companies working in sectors such as plant and equipment, pipework, general fabrication, heat exchange and ancillary equipment explore the opportunities available to them in this growing market."
