QUEENSLAND'S northern rail services are back on track.

The North Coast Line between Brisbane and Cairns reopened to passenger and freight trains at first light yesterday morning after extensive flooding cut the line for almost a month.

QR chief executive officer Paul Scurrah said in Rockhampton yesterday the freight service would transport vital supplies such as groceries through to Central and North Queensland, while taking passengers to places they needed to be.

aConsidering the damage that's happened on our network, to recover that in such a quick fashion is the best thing we can do and the right thing for the people of Queensland,a Mr Scurrah said.

He said just about every city along the vital rail network from Brisbane to Cairns had been affected without QR, even cities not flooded. …
