APPRENTICE Scott Meek scored a blinder when he landed a placement at Simon Carson Sports School.

For the 20-year-old from Middlesbrough was able to indulge his passion for football and pass on sports skills to youngsters. Scott trained with the Guisborough-based sports school for three years and his dedication and commitment didn't go unnoticed. Before his apprenticeship was over he was offered a full-time post - as a head coach.

"We've seen a real progression in Scott and he's a valuable member of the team," said Simon Carson, pictured, left, with Scott.

"We would highly recommend the apprenticeship programme offered by the college. It has worked for us for several years and Scott is just the latest in a long line of apprentices."

As junior coach Scott was responsible for checking the sports pitches, taking registers and making sure youngsters used the equipment correctly.

But with coaching badges under his belt and promotion to head coach he's now qualified to lead the sessions. …
