Holiday Thefts Latest in Quirky Trouble for Beaches Town Center

The Beaches Town Center has enjoyed its attractiveness as a hub of fun and commercial success through the years, but it has also endured the occasional oddity.

The recent brief theft of two holiday decorations was a reminder of that dichotomy.

But city officials on both sides of the village oasis at the foot of Atlantic Boulevard brushed off the recent theft of a large faux surfboard and holiday present, saying it's simply the result of one or two people overindulging in spirits.

"I think it was just a guy who was drunk and threw them in his truck," said Neptune Beach City Manager Jim Jarboe. "Anyway, they were returned. ... I didn't even know it happened in Neptune Beach until I got a call that they found it."

The Town Center Agency has infused about $90,000 in the past two years to improve decorations ranging from faux holiday surfboards, decorative lifeguard chairs, oversized ornaments and wrapped holiday gifts. …
