Career-Focused Rhiannon Wins $20,000 Grant; Coveted Scholarship Opens Doors to World of International Hospitality

RHIANNON Shepherd's hospitality career has been given another boost.

The 18-year-old from beachside Bucasia has picked up a $20,000 scholarship to the International College of Hotel Management (ICHM) in South Australia.

Rhiannon was the successful applicant in 2009 for a traineeship at the Mackay Grande Suites, going on to work at the property part-time while finishing Year 12.

Rhiannon was over the moon when told about the ICHM scholarship.

C[pounds sterling]I had set my heart on studying at ICHM, and the scholarship is an added ingredient in the next stage of my international hospitality career,C[yen] she said.

She was able to brush up on a second language while on an extended stay in Costa Rica in 2010, where she lived with families in rural areas and taught English as a volunteer.

Fluency in a second language Co in Rhiannon's case, Spanish Co is a prerequisite to ICHM's qualifications. …
