Weapons Are Found in St. Johns County Pond; MULTI-AGENCY SEARCH St. Johns, Jacksonville Sheriff's Offices and FBI Won't Discuss the Case

An extensive underwater search Tuesday of a retention pond just north of St. Augustine turned up at least two handguns as divers from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office joined with the FBI and Jacksonville Sheriff's Office to look for evidence in a case.

None of the agencies, however, will discuss the case.

The huge, rectangular pond - used for Nocatee's reclaimed water - is off Valley Ridge Boulevard. It's in the 11000 block of Old Dixie Highway, a dirt road across from a Gate station east of U.S. 1.

FBI Special Agent Jeff Westcott could only say it's a joint-investigation search for evidence.

One black revolver was pulled from the weed-choked waters just before noon. An FBI agent took photographs, then washed it off and secured it in an evidence box.

As it was being taken away, authorities were also heard discussing other weapons that apparently were being sought. Another revolver, encrusted in mud, was found about 12:30 p. …
