Teams Line Up for Six-a-Side; Interest High for Frenchville Event

FOOTBALL: There may be a lot of uncertainties in football in Central Queensland but thankfully the annual Frenchville Six-a-Side carnival is not one.

Sports manager for the Frenchville club Terry Kennedy is delighted to report that interest is already high with teams putting forward nominations despite the event being a month away.

C[pounds sterling]We have 12 nominations already,C[yen] Kennedy said.

The news might not be all good for local players as one of the teams to nominate early is the Lions club from Mackay.

While the club has missed some carnivals, it normally does very well when it attends, winning the men's competition on at least a couple of occasions.

Not that the Lions' record will frighten off Capricorn Coast as the Yeppoon-based club keeps adding to its trophy tally in both men's and women's football.

The Coast go into this year's tournament as title-holder in the men's section and beaten finalist in the women's division and while coaches like to point out the tournament is all about getting players back on to the park, collecting a trophy and a share of the $7000 prizemoney is always a bonus. …
