Foreign Interest in SQIT Program; Austrian Television Program Investigates Opportunities for Immigrants in Warwick

WARWICK will be broadcast into Austrian living rooms later this year.

Austrian television producers were in Warwick on Friday shooting footage for an international current affairs program.

Producer Christa Hofmann from the Weltjournal television program looked at skilled-worker migration in Australia.

aThey sent me here to see how it works,a she said.

She said upcoming changes to Austrian migration law caused heated debate in her country.

Ms Hofmann and a cameraman travelled to Australia for a two-week trip to document four stories about migration.

In Warwick, they looked at the success of Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE's program that equips immigrants with agricultural skills.

Although only in Warwick for one day, Ms Hofmann said she liked the city.

aI haven't seen too much but what I have seen I like. It has quite nice historic buildings,a she said.

On Australia Day she witnessed new Australian citizens being naturalised in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast. …
