Reconstruction Authority Welcomed as Mateship Continues in All Forms

THE reception the Queensland Reconstruction Authority is getting as we move around the state is special.

Communities, councils and individuals, many of whom have been dealt terrible blows, personally and collectively, have been very forthcoming.

The armies of volunteers who have gone in with a shovel and a mop and made themselves useful, in the flood-affected homes and businesses of people they did not even know, are inspiring. I know it is early and there is such a long way to go, but thanks to each and every one of them.

To listen to Toowoomba mayor Peter Taylor tell of 230mm of rain falling in 30 minutes in his city is almost to question him Co but when you see first hand what that rain cell did over Toowoomba and in the Lockyer Valley on January 10, it brings home this it is no figment. The Lockyer Valley is a special case and the havoc caused by the inland tsunami there is beyond belief.

The rebuild will take time, money and patience. …
