Series of Arson Raids Has Boaties on Watch

BOAT owners are terrified, police are are astounded and Keppel Bay Marina owners are devastated.

Another vessel has been set alight a the third vessel to be targeted at the marina by a malicious attacker since January 13, leaving the community in shock.

Regional Crime Co-ordinator Cal Lynch yesterday appealed for extra vigilance among the boating community amid fears there could be a major blaze at the marina where vessels worth millions of dollars are moored.

Already thousands of dollars worth of damage has been caused.

In the latest incident the owners of an unnamed 40-foot fly bridge cruiser returned to the boat yesterday to find it had been entered and a fire lit on the rear port side.

Luckily the fire, which damaged the fibreglass screen, burned itself out without causing major damage.

Mr Lynch said an industrial bin at the harbour was also set alight overnight, and The Morning Bulletin understands there was also a fire inside the men's toilet block at the marina building. …
