George himself has since died, but what he was implying was that we cannot go back in time to relive the past. Nor should we want to when we ask ourselves: aWere the a[approximately]good old days' really that good?a

Older readers will remember when banks opened at 10am and closed at 3pm, except for Fridays. Remember when you got paid in cash and had to walk into your bank to deposit some of it to your account? Remember the waiting time you had to endure to get your home loan application approved? Gone are those days a[degrees] and thank goodness.

Now, not only can we send family photos around the world in an instant and use internet telephony programs such as Skype to speak to loved ones on the other side of the world at a very small cost, we can also do almost all of our banking from the comfort of our own home at any time we choose.

We can receive our bank statements, import them into an accounting program for better analysis, pay our bills, transfer funds to and from other accounts, set up payments and a host of other things. …
