A SUNSHINE Coast mailing house owner wants to know why the Sunshine Coast Regional Council uses a Brisbane firm to send its rates notices when Coast businesses could do the work.

Council advertisements have appeared in the past week advising that rates notices have been late because of flooding in Brisbane and the due date for payment had been extended to February 25.

Nathan Koina, the owner of Mailezy at Maroochydore, said he had attended three meetings with the council during the past year to discuss the possibility of work but nothing had come of it so far.

He said the staff member told him that the various departments within the council made their own arrangements for outgoing mail.

He was told Mailezy's contact details would be circulated on the council intranet.

Mr Koina said the council's rates notices could not have been delayed for a week by Brisbane's floods if they had been sent from the Sunshine Coast.
