THE FRASER Coast, sometimes criticised for not being aggressive enough in attracting new business, has been given the thumbs-up from stand-up paddling pioneer Chris de Aboitiz.

For the past six and a half years, Mr de Aboitiz and a business partner had operated Stand Up Paddle Surfing at the Noosa Heads Lions Park.

The council permit to operate went up for tender and Mr de Aboitiz found his prosperous business torpedoed by the decision to award the permit to a competitor.

But his new home and subsequent business venture here has him smiling.

Mr de Aboitiz is no stranger to the Fraser Coast, having owned a holiday house near Hervey Bay for some time.

He also gained some notoriety a few years ago when he attempted to stand-up paddle around Fraser Island, only to be defeated at the half-way point by a stiff southerly. …
