State Govt Points to Its $11M Boost for Housing

THE booming mining industry in Gladstone affects the local community in many ways.

Along with a multi-million-dollar boost to the Gladstone economy and support for local jobs comes pressure on rental accommodation. That's why the State Government is taking steps to make sure safe, affordable and secure accommodation is available for people who need it.

In the 2009-2010 financial year, 21 units of new public housing accommodation were completed with an approved budget of $2.7 million. Another 63 units of public housing worth almost $8.2 million are set to be constructed this financial year.

The Gladstone area is also set to benefit from 81 units that have been approved under the National Rental Affordability Scheme which will rent to low income-earners at 20% below market rates.

Seniors on fixed incomes are set to benefit from this with the Gladstone Central Committee of the Aging expected to have 21 units specifically for over-55s ready to move into within weeks. …
