Forwards Feel They Are Sharp Enough; L[degrees]venkrands Takes Responsibility

PETER L[degrees]venkrands is confident Newcastle United have the necessary firepower to ensure they are not dragged into relegation danger after the goalless draw at Blackburn Rovers.

L[degrees]venkrands was unfortunate not to find the back of the net in the first half when his clever lob came back off the crossbar, but Newcastle were often blunt in attack.

That enabled Blackburn to secure a draw from a game the visitors bossed for long periods, yet L[degrees]venkrands (pictured below) is understandably prickly at any suggestion they do not have the strikers to fill the void left by Andy Carroll's departure.

"We had a lot of the ball going forward, but with the end product, it just didn't fall for us," said L[degrees]venkrands, who has been a frustrated spectator for much of the season before the sale of Carroll. "There weren't a lot of chances. We didn't create that much, despite getting in good positions.

"Everyone will focus on that now that Andy is away. But we've got players who can come in and score for us. I got 16 goals last year, that's only three less than Andy, and I played less games than him. Yes, he's a big miss, of course. He's a great player and good luck to him. But we have players here that go and fill his boots. We just need that bit of luck to set us off and I'm sure we'll be fine.

"Both me and Leon (Best) have been waiting on our chance. There's been a lot of times when we've felt we should have been playing, but now we've got a chance, we need to go and prove it." Despite the disappointment of failing to secure a precious away win, there were plenty of encouraging things about United's performance and the point ensures they have maintained a five-point lead over the bottom three.
