THERE was a pronounced changing of the guard at this year's Woolgoolga Athletic Club 10,000 metre track championship, as the winning brother and sister act from last week's Bunch of Fives added another double win to their CVs.

Richard and Michelle Pearson broke through for maiden victories over the 25 laps of the track at Woolgoolga Sportsground in emphatic style.

Richard served notice of his intent by clocking three minutes and 33 seconds for his first kilometre, then lapping the rest of the field to record an impressive time of 37.42, while Michelle made circling the track look easy to lead in the ladies in 45.29.

Second across the finish line was Jason Smit, who held off track running newcomer Greg Jarman.

Second lady was former champion Tina Thompson, who needed to sprint at the end to ward off the challenge of third-placed Janie Mahoney. Mahoney's time of 49.52 was an improvement of more than two minutes on her effort last year.

Of special merit was the debut effort over the distance of 13-year-old Jarrod Sadler, who finished seventh in 55. …
