St James' to Host 2012 Quarter-Finals; OLYMPICS

SEBASTIAN Coe yesterday launched the detailed schedule for the London Olympics - as it was revealed that Newcastle will host nine football matches to play its part in the "greatest show on earth".

The times, dates and prices to watch more than 600 separate sessions at the 2012 Games are being emailed to the 2.2million people who have signed up for information ahead of tickets going on sale next month.

Newcastle United's St James' Park is scheduled to host two Olympic football quarter-finals - one each in the men and women's tournaments - as well as seven preliminary round games during July and August 2012, with ticket prices ranging between pounds 20 and pounds 50.

Football, also being hosted at Hampden Park, Old Trafford, the Millennium Stadium and Coventry, is probably the only sport that brings a truly national feel to London 2012.

The finals will be held at Wembley - the women's on August 9, the men's on August 11. Double Olympic champion Coe said that in his competitive days this was the moment that the Games became "real". …
