Organisation Taps into Fathers of Disabled Children

FOR dads of children with a disability, it can be a long and lonely road.

But it doesn't have to be.

It was that realisation that drove Graham Mayer to start DADS (Dads Appreciating Disabilities) Australia, four years ago in Toowoomba.

Now the group is set to come and extend a hand to fathers in Mackay for the first time in March, with funding from Minister for Disability Services and Multicultural Affairs, Annastacia Palaszczuk.

Mr Mayer, who became the stepfather of a daughter with Down Syndrome when she was three, said DADS gatherings gave men a chance to just sit down and take a moment.
