SUNSHINE Coast University Students Are Working Some of the Longest Hours in the Country to Pay Their Own Way

Article excerpt

THIS is possibly more reflective of the high cost of degrees at USC and the lack of opportunity for students to earn reasonable wages, than lack of scholarships. Although I fully support offering scholarships to deserving students, the majority of students at other universities do not fund their studies on scholarships. The Sunshine Coast has a very limited employment base, mostly based on retail, construction and hospitality; and wages are very low.

Life means sacrifice

THAT'S harsh but life is harsh. I work up to 70 hours a week to get the money I need to live some sort of decent life. You make sacrifices. Unless you're willing to live on the line, have won the Lotto or were born into money, you are one of the 95 per cent of us out there engaged in the daily grind.
