DREAM SHOT AT BIG TIME; Kanofski Targets Tournament as Springboard to US

IPSWICH'S perennial underdog boxer Jason Kanofski says he's in the best shape of his life ahead of his debut in a lucrative tournament.

The fighter is preparing for a huge opportunity where the winner gets a shot at the holy grail of boxing Co America.

But first he must defeat an old enemy in the form of Beijing Olympian and undefeated pro Todd Kidd tonight inside Melbourne's Flemington Racecourse.

The fight is the first of four in an eight-man tournament named Fight Series.

It pits the best welterweights (66.68kg) in the country against each other over six months.

The winner will be crowned the IBO Asia Pacific title holder and is guaranteed a bout in California on the Fight Club OC boxing card in December.

C[pounds sterling]When they asked me to be in the tournament, I couldn't wait to say yes,C[yen] Kanofski said.

C[pounds sterling]This is four fights guaranteed and when you're trying to pay off a mortgage, that's great news.

C[pounds sterling]I'm fighting every six weeks so after the bout, I'll have a week off then get right back into it again which is how I like it.C[yen]

Kanofski is the third-ranked welterweight fighter in Queensland and the sixth-ranked super welterweight in Australia.

He said he was finally over a back problem that had troubled him for years.

C[pounds sterling]I'm feeling the best I ever have,C[yen] Kanofski said.

C[pounds sterling]My back has been my main inhibitor in the past and I've finally had the right physio for it and I feel good. …
