IT HAS been going so long, people driving past barely notice any more, but it has become a thorn in the side of those whose lives it has messed up.

Roadworks near the intersection of Brisbane and Whitwood roads at Ebbw Vale were meant to be done within a few months, but this month the project marked its first birthday.

Walker Corporation is responsible for the work, which is part of a new access to its Citiswich Business Park and the Warrego Highway.

Cr Trevor Nardi, whose division covers the area, said it was the longest road project he had seen in his 13 years as a councillor.

He said the work was scheduled to begin last February. That was put off till March, and the finishing date kept stretching on.

Businesses nearby have struggled with disruptions.

Studio 90210 hair salon owner Kylie Richer said she arrived at work one Saturday morning to find her water had been cut off.
