Coalition Moves to Calm Second Bridge Concerns

A PLEDGE from State Nat-ionals Leader Andrew Stoner to begin work on a second Grafton bridge within four years has been welcomed by the community.

During a visit to Grafton on Thursday, Mr Stoner announced funding for the second crossing would become available as part of $5 billion in Coalition stimulus funding called Infrastructure NSW.

He said if the Coalition was elected in next month's State elections work would not only start on the project before the end of the next parliamentary term, but more emphasis would be placed on the community's view of where the new bridge would be sited.

Grafton Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Jeremy Challacombe said this was music to the chamber's ears.

aWe're very pleased to see it. Basically our position is that we want it done as soon as possible. We want the site identified and as soon as the site is identified, we want people to be compensated straight up, whether they stay there or move away, so it's music to our ears to be honest,a Mr Challacombe said. …
