MPs Raise a Glass as Teesside Beer Served in the Commons

THERE was a taste of Redcar in the House of Commons when a locally-brewed beer tickled MPs' taste buds.

The town's Liberal Democrat MP Ian Swales persuaded a Westminster bar to take a Redscar Brewery guest ale.

A barrel of Redscar Rocks -the first brand produced back in 2008 -was chosen to be sent to Westminster.

And it has been served in the Strangers Bar.

Just after Prime Minister's Questions this week, husband and wife brewers Chris and Lindsey Appleby joined Mr Swales in the bar with chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Save the Pub Group, Greg Mulholland MP.

Since 2008, the brewery has been producing various Redcar-themed real ales in the cellar at the town's Cleveland Hotel in Queen Street.

The Redcar micro-brewery produces various ales, from the 'golden hoppy 'Redscar Sands to Redscar Beach -a 'smooth amber ale with a slight bite'. Chris has run the Cleveland for 11 years and plans to upgrade Redscar from being a 2.5 barrel brewery to five barrel. …
