THREE Gladstone karters, including a defending champion from 2010, start their 2011 seasons this weekend, with one a newcomer to the toughest end of town.

Jason Faint returned to the sport last year after a few seasons away from the track, joining the Two4Tuning team at Gerard Battye's insistence, and has thrown himself in at the deep end, nominating for the CIK Stars of Karting series in the gearbox category.

Faint joins John Grother and Cain Fothergill, last year's CIK Pro Lite champion, in the series, round one of which gets underway at Ipswich this weekend.

Pitting himself against state and national champions such as Kel Tresseder is slightly daunting but Faint knows the level doesn't get any tougher.
