City Man Escapes Libyan Revolution

TOOWOOMBA diesel mechanic Terry Hinz will celebrate his 47th birthday today being ferried across the Mediterranean Sea after escaping a deadly revolution in Libya.

Mr Hinz was working on an oil rig near Tripoli when violence began in the north African country last week.

His wife Jodi said Mr Hinz spent two to three days on a rig after it was shut down before being moved to Tripoli where he spent another three terrifying days waiting for a chance to escape to safety.

He and about 45 other workers were then taken by bus to a port at Benghazi where they boarded a ship for Malta on Sunday night (AEST).

Mrs Hinz and sons Andrew, 17, and Jonathon, 12, have endured an anxious week wondering when they would see Mr Hinz again.
