Stranglers Not Done with Influencing

CAST an eye over the cited influences of many bands of the past couple of decades and you'll often see a reference to The Stranglers. And the enduring punk/new wave icons aren't done influencing.

Tonight the band (which, since 2000, has included Sunderland guitarist Baz Warned, who replaced John Ellis) will kick off their Black and Blue Tour at the 02 Academy in Newcastle.

"It will be great starting in the North East," said Baz.

"I know the fans up here are dedicated followers. So it is quite special for me to open the tour here, being a local lad."

Tonight's concert is likely to be a pretty crowded gig - the loyalty of the band's fans is legendary in itself - proving the Stranglers, have maintained their ability to captivate an audience, despite going through big line up changes over the years.

During tonight's performance, the band will apparently be debuting a clutch of new tunes, in advance of getting to work on a new album in the not too distant future. …
