I GREW up in Townsville. I figured I was acclimatised to heat. The last week or so, however, have told me Iam not as acclimatised as I thought.

I have no recollection of the heat bothering me as a kid. We didnat have air-conditioning, we had no mozzie screens, and only ceiling fans in the lounge and dining room, yet we survived nicely.

Townsville regularly hit 40 degrees, and yet here in Lismore we are only experiencing 35. It feels so much hotter than I recall. It is not just me a Rosie feline has been snoozing under a shady tree for days, flat on her back, all stretched out hoping a sneaky breeze will find her.

On another subject, I am once again on the employment search. Contrary to horror stories I have heard, my dealings with Centrelink have been totally positive. I have been treated with the utmost of courtesy and professionalism, and been provided with a whole new world of support in my job search that I did not really know existed. …
