Schwarten a Racing Minister Who Spoke His Mind

Article excerpt

BEFORE forgetting, I must wish my old sparring partner Robert Schwarten MP the best of luck in retirement.

If I admire Robert for anything it is for his penchant to speak his mind.

I have lived by that motto and I stand by it even though I have paid dearly for it at times.

I must say that in Robert's former portfolio as Racing Minister he was very active and gave it his best shot.

I know he read this column regularly and hope he still does.

This reminds me Co who the hell is the Queensland Racing Minister now or do we even have one?

Sorry, how silly of me Co course we do.

However, I never believed Warren was correct in forecasting that the flooded Callaghan Park turf track would resume racing on March 19.

Now this time Warren was wrong and I was right, although I don't think Warren sees it this way.

The point I'm alluding to is that nobody is criticising Warren Williams or Racing Queensland for not having the track right for March 19.

However, why the hell he kept saying it would be OK as recently as just over two weeks ago shocked me. …
