Angels Are Honoured for All Their Hard Work

CIVIC recognition has been given to the work of the Boro Angels.

Tracey Brittain, manager of the volunteer project which provides a helping and caring presence in Middlesbrough town centre on Saturday nights, has received a Middlesbrough Mayor's Award.

Boro Angels is a partnership of volunteers representing churches and the wider community, backed by the council and Safer Middlesbrough Partnership.

The project started in January 2010 and around 15 volunteers work in teams of three or four providing help and support for people who are out on the town.

The Boro Angels' work includes seeking out people who have become vulnerable, such as strangers to the town who become separated from their group, and helping people to find ways of getting home.

Boro Angels have built up good working relationships with the police and other emergency services, pubs, clubs, takeaways, taxi drivers and council enforcement officers.

Tracey said: "I'm really proud and delighted to receive the Mayor's Award on behalf of all our volunteers. …
