THE more I hear about the explosion that rattled windows and frightened dogs in South Grafton on Tuesday night, the stranger it seems.

Yesterday we reported there was an explosion somewhere in the South Grafton area about 10.30pm that was easily audible in some of the northern parts of Grafton.

Strangely, neither the police nor the fire brigade heard anything about it.

We reported one resident as saying he saw a flash in the sky to the south of Grafton, followed by two fireballs with fire trails falling to earth. He estimated they would have been a few hundred metres apart.

We put out the call for people who may have seen or heard anything more about it to contact us.

I wouldn't say we were flooded with responses, but we did get a few interesting calls and emails.

One woman in McFarlane St said she was at her back window looking south when she saw an orange light moving horizontal to the ground until it reached about half way across her back yard, there was an explosion and the light disappeared. …
