SARAH Millican will kick off her next tour on home turf.

The comedian and writer, who has enjoyed a fast-paced stream of success since being nominated for the Best Newcomer gong at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2008, will bring her new show, Thoroughly Modern Millican, to the Customs House, South Shields, on October 8. Although she still has a duo of sell-out April dates with The Journal Tyne Theatre to honour as part of her current tour, Chatterbox, the 35-year-old comic is already working on new material for her Edinburgh show in August, which will then be rolled out across the UK.

And her first date is likely to be a family affair, with Sarah's parents and sister still living in South Shields.

Customs House executive director Ray Spencer said: "I am absolutely delighted that Sarah is to start her tour with us.

"She is quite rightly one of the most popular comedians working at the moment and is playing some very big venues so for her to start with us is a great endorsement for our theatre. …
