INSKIP has become a sore point, literally, for Gympie region councillors and a deeply divided Rainbow Beach community.

At issue is the Rainbow Shores Stage II project a a major residential and business development north of the existing Rainbow Shores development.

Parties to the dispute include some of Queensland's best known conservation groups, local businesses and residents, three state government departments, Rainbow Shores developer Andreas Krauchi, and Gympie Regional Council.

Inskip Point camping advocate and Rainbow Shores II opponent Reg Lawler this week accused the council of running dead on its claimed objections to the development.

He produced a letter from council solicitors King and Company, which he said showed council was half-hearted in its objections, to the point of appearing to roll over on town planning issues.

He said the letter seemed to reveal that the council had secretly changed its mind on opposing the project, without any public council meeting decision. …
