SURF LIFESAVING: Corey Jones may be the defending Queensland ironman champion, but he says he will not have it all his own way when it comes time for his title defence on Sunday.

The Met Caloundra ironman's chances of going back-to-back received a boost when surf lifesaving legends Zane Holmes and Shannon Eckstein both pulled out of this weekend's Queensland Surf Life Saving Championships at Kurrawa, on the Gold Coast.

HOWEVER, the man affectionately known as the Seagull said it would be naive to think he had one hand on the crown given the strength of the field.

Jones, 24, stormed to victory at last year's Queensland championships in the absence of Holmes and Eckstein.

He said he had taken a break from training after finishing 12th in this year's Nutri-Grain Ironman Series and was focusing on the Australian Championships early next month. …
