Students Opt to Complete Senior Education

TOOWOOMBA students are bucking the national trend as they realise the importance a complete education will have in opening doors in later life.

A report released yesterday by the Australian Bureau of Statistics took a snapshot of Australian society and discovered that students in regional/remote areas are less likely to complete year 12 studies when compared with their metropolitan counterparts.

The Australian Social Trends report stated that only 67 per cent of regional students went on to complete year 12 studies compared to 81% of metropolitan students.

However, Glennie School principal Wendy Ashley-Cooper said that figure was not the case in Toowoomba.

aToowoomba has the greatest proportion of students in independent schools than anywhere else in Australia so that figure may not be relevant here,a Mrs Ashley-Cooper said.
