Batochir Delighted with Road Relay Win

THE smile on Serod Batochir's face said it all after his performance in the Northern Athletics 12-Stage Road Relay helped Morpeth regain the title they last won in 2007.

The Mongolian athlete was Morpeth's lead-off man and at the changeover only Olympian and Northern Cross-Country champion Tom Lancashire was ahead of him, with just two seconds separating the pair.

It was Batochir's first outing for the Northumbrians since returning to the UK and it was the ideal warm-up prior to making his debut in the London Marathon next month.

However, before that, he is eagerly looking forward to being part of Morpeth's squad for the National 12-Stage Road Relays in Sutton Coldfield in 10 days' time.

"I'm very happy with my performance," said Batochir, whose last outing was in December when he won the Hofu Yomiuri Marathon in Japan in 2hrs 14min 49secs.

"I felt I ran well for I knew my training has been good and now I want to do the same for Morpeth in the National Relays. …
