A REPLICA of the car being lined up for an attempt on the world land speed record parked up at a Redcar college.

Bloodhound is the rocket-powered, 1,000mph vehicle being developed to take the title from current record holder Thrust II. That is the vehicle which, driven by former Marske schoolboy Andy Green, reached 763mph in the USA's Black Rock desert in 1997.

Andy and the Bloodhound SSC team now hope to smash the record with their new super machine - a full size replica of which rolled up in the town.

More than 200 school and college students from across the North-east took a look at it at Redcar and Cleveland College.

The car's visit was part of a conference focusing on the teaching and learning of STEM subjects - science, technology, engineering and maths.

After hearing from the project team, students took part in various activities, including building their own balloon powered version of the Bloodhound, 'driving' at 1,000mph in a simulator and taking a look at the replica car itself. …
