MAYOR Bob Abbot has vowed to fast-track any approval process needed to allow Horton Park Golf Club to get on with building a new course.

Cr Abbot said he would also welcome any approach from the club to discuss a plan for its future.

He said consideration would be given to it being able to continue playing at its present CBD location in some form while a new course was being built.

But he said council required certainty that it would be guaranteed access to the course to begin creating necessary road reserves and the public open space it required.

Club president Geoff Davies said any assistance the Mayor could give the club would be helpful.

The club has voted to sell its present course to council for $39 million but has been split over a decision on whether to buy Twin Waters Golf Club or build a new course.

Support for a new course option has been limited by members' fears that they would be left with nowhere to play for up to four years. …
