MARK Sellers has good reason to be anxious when he sees water rising outside his home near Windmill Crossing.

Mr Sellers was living in California in February 1986, with his wife and four children, when a tropical low dumped so much rain it melted every bit of snow, creating a wall of water that broke a levee bank and gushed through his home.

C[pounds sterling]I had just spent three months remodelling our house,C[yen] he said.

C[pounds sterling]A huge tropical storm came in and melted all the snow at once and this humungous amount of water came down the river.

C[pounds sterling]The levee broke and all of a sudden a wall of water came across the grape field and into our home.
