Warriors out to Down Hawks in Semi Showdown

WHITLEY Warriors look to take the first steps towards retaining the play-off crown tomorrow.

Having successfully defended their English National League North title by going all 28 games unbeaten, the Warriors travel to take on Blackburn Hawks in the semi-final first leg in Lancashire.

"As we have done in every game this season, Sunday will be no different and we will be going for the win," said Whitley coach Simon Leach. "Although the tie is over two legs, there is no way you can go into any hockey game looking for a draw.

"Obviously we need to keep things as tight as possible at the back.

"But we are a side that creates chances, so if we limit the opportunities Blackburn have I'm sure we have more than enough firepower to cause their defence problems."

However, Leach is aware that the Hawks are one of the most unpredictable sides in the league.

"They might have come through to clinch their place in the playoffs at the last minute, but they can be a match for anyone," he said. …
